Adult Individual Therapy
Mood Disorders
Depression and Bipolar Disorder can be diagnoses that can leave an individual feeling lost and stuck. After pursuing effective support from a therapist, most people have been able to move forward and gain better understanding of how to confront their disorder and heal from the distressing symptoms. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy also assists in identifying and challenging errors in thinking that usually sustain the symptoms of mood disorders.
As a therapist, I collaborate with individuals to help them better understand their mood disorder and to identify needs in mind, body, and spirit that need to be fulfilled to achieve healing and recovery.
Attention Deficit Disorders
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is often considered a disorder which only greatly affects children. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder can look very different in adults and can have a profound effect on building relationships, job performance, job satisfaction, impulsive decision making, organization, planning, communication, time management, frustration tolerance, focusing, and difficulty multitasking amongst other issues.
Having worked with both children and adults diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, I am trained in understanding how to aide adults in gaining the skills and insights needed to take control of ADHD. Using both Behavior Management and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I provide practical and impactful skills to support individuals in decreasing the impact of ADHD in order to improve their quality of life.
Relationship Difficulties
I always say “people are complicated, relationships are complicated, and people in relationships are complicated”. Although often said with some humor, this specific quote captures the challenges that individuals face trying to navigate relationships with others. It is an innate need for humans to have contact with other humans in order to cultivate close relationships. Despite these innate needs, relationships can be difficult to understand and it can be confusing to try to figure out how to build the best relationships with others.
Whether it is with a significant other or a family member, I assist individuals with navigating difficult relationships by combining the use of Psychodynamic Theory, Family Systems Theory, and positive communication strategies.
Work-Life Balance
Finding balance between professional and personal life can feel elusive. It can seem like work life has taken over, leaving other areas of life neglected. Work-Life imbalance can lead to feelings of exhaustion, anxiousness, sadness, frustration, and dissatisfaction. Work-Life imbalance can have negative effects on physical health as well. Relationships also suffer from Work-Life imbalance since others can begin to feel as though they are not as important as work related obligations.
Through my experience in providing therapy for adults seeking better Work-Life Balance, I work to assist individuals in identifying stressors and practical solutions to increase stability. I support individuals in building self-awareness around unhelpful thoughts contributing to an imbalanced life; and I also assist individuals in prioritizing their time in a productive and healthy way so that a more well-rounded life can be achieved.
Ongoing Substance Use Recovery
Substance Abuse Recovery can be a long and arduous road. It takes daily conscious effort and a certain set of skills and strategies to ensure that recovery is maintained. Most importantly, recovery also requires addressing the underlying issues that maintained the substance use initially. With the right type of support, maintaining long term sobriety can be possible.
Providing support to those seeking ongoing recovery includes:
· Utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to address thinking errors and negative thoughts which contribute to the urge to use substances
· Behavior Management to modify environmental stressors that lead to substance use
· Supporting the 12-step recovery model to best ensure continuing success in recovery
· Identifying effective coping strategies to replace substance use
